Pregnancy Yoga Classes are held every Friday at 7pm in the All Round Yoga Studio in Charleville.
Yoga is a great way to prepare for your pregnancy, labour, and motherhood as it offers many health and emotional benefits during pregnancy.
This is a time of great change in a woman’s body and through yoga’s gentle movement; relaxation and breathwork you will develop the skills and resources necessary to cope with the demands of labour and motherhood. When paired with a cardiovascular exercise such as walking, yoga can be an ideal way to stay in shape during pregnancy.
Prenatal Yoga Benefits:
- Learn breathing techniques to cope with labour
- Relieve backache and other pregnancy-related issues
- More energy and less fatigue
- Increased strength, confidence, and stamina
- Improved posture, core stability, and balance
- Improved sleep through relaxation techniques
- Relief of physical, mental and emotional tension
- Bonding with your baby
The practice of yoga helps to keep you flexible, toned, and improves your sense of balance; it also improves circulation with little, or no, impact on your joints. A balanced mind is a focused mind and a focused mind will get you through the demands of labour.
Yoga is also beneficial because it teaches you how to breathe deeply by engaging the abdominal muscles thereby slowing down your breath and soothing your nervous system. This trains you to stay calm when you need it the most i.e. labour. When in pain or afraid your body produces adrenalin and this sometimes slows down the production of oxytocin, a hormone that aids labour. A regular yoga practice will help you fight the urge to tighten up when you feel pain and teach you how to relax and release the tension from your body instead, it will also give you the confidence to move through your pregnancy with ease and grace.
